INIT moves into high-rise building

Extension building offers plenty of working space and room for further growth

After almost two years of construction work, on 18 June 2015, it was finally time for the grand opening of the new INIT high-rise building. Management and INIT employees all took delight in this day. For one thing, the building phase, which had entailed a number of restrictions, had come to an end, and for another, new modern offices could be moved into and rooms in the old buildings could be reallocated.

Increasing success – growing staff numbers

The building project was necessitated by the company’s continued success, with a whole series of international tenders having been won within the last few years. As a result, staff requirements have been increasing continuously. At the Karlsruhe location alone, over 100 new positions have been created in the last few years, which has led to very crowded conditions and the outplacing of some departments. For this reason, and because the positive trend is set to continue, further office space was urgently required.

2,000 m² over 11 floors

The result is an ultra-modern building that can be seen from the A5 motorway and the railway line, creating a new landmark for Karlsruhe. With more than 2,000 m2 of office space, the new building offers INIT employees an attractive working environment for their demanding tasks. Small units enable staff to concentrate on their work in well-lit offices. The building consists of a high-rise construction with 11 floors including an underground car park and annexes connecting to the existing buildings at Kaeppelestrasse 4 and Kaeppelestrasse 6. The result is a complete modern complex that now provides covered access to all INIT offices.

The new building has been equipped with a break room, handicap accessible toilets and spacious working areas. A special highlight, found on the top floor, is the elegant conference area where the large rooftop terrace and loggia offer an impressive view over Karlsruhe.

Grand opening

The high-rise building was officially opened on June 18, 2015, in the presence of numerous guests and INIT employees. INIT CEO Dr. Gottfried Greschner welcomed them and expressed his delight that after a construction phase lasting almost two years, such spacious premises were now available, which will also provide scope for future growth. Evidence of the company’s global success was made visible not least by the international visitors from the USA and the UK, whom he was delighted to welcome. The Lord Mayor of Karlsruhe Dr. Frank Mentrup called the opening of the INIT high-rise building a great day for the city of Karlsruhe.

The new building’s presence is an enhancement for Karlsruhe’s eastern district. It is fully in line with urban development and helps to make better use of the limited space available. Furthermore, he praised the company’s commitment to the wellbeing of the city, especially in the area of community and sports.

INIT’s guidelines

As a company with the stated aim of making public transport more attractive and more efficient, INIT of course took the carbon footprint into account when planning the building. For this reason, the southern facade and the roof of the high-rise building are fitted with solar panels. Moreover, the building’s insulation surpasses the requirements of the current energy saving regulations (EnEV) by 30 %. But INIT’s commitment to the environment is not only reflected in the building’s equipment, but also in the choice of location. Through post-compaction at the present location and not building on a green-field site, INIT is helping to reduce the exploitation of land.
