While INIT started its business as GmbH already in 1983, init innovation in traffic systems AG was established in 2000. This step was taken to support the ongoing international strategy. Since July 2001, the company has been public on the German stock exchange. Putting even more emphasis on its international character, the legal form was transformed from a German “Aktiengesellschaft” (AG) into a Societas Europaea (SE) based on European law in 2017.

init SE exercises a holding function for the INIT Group. Its headquarters are located in Karlsruhe, Germany. As parent company within the INIT Group, it is also responsible for controlling, finance and accounting. The Management Board of init SE makes decisions on the core strategy of the INIT Group.
